The figures are, of course, Poser. The alien was produced by deforming the model's head using Ray Dream Designer's "Sphere of Attraction" tool. This worked surprisingly well, although I didn't pay quite enough attention to detail, and had to turn the figure slightly sideways so that you wouldn't see that his head is actually rather lopsided. Textures were applied in Bryce by the usual divide and conquer method, although each body part only uses a single texture, so no Booleans were required.
The woman, on the other hand, is extensively Booleanised. She was originally a "female nude detailed" from Poser and was clothed by extensive use of duplication plus negative and/or intersecting Booleans. Her shorts, bra, and the straps holding her thigh holster were all produced in this way. The holster itself - almost invisible in this image - was made in Ray Dream Studio, her other accessories are Bryce primitives. Her hair began life as the Poser 'Female Hair' prop, and was extensively tweaked in both Ray Dream Studio and Bryce before I was satisfied.
The 'set' was made from Bryce primitives with a marble texture applied. In the background are some terrains which have been simplified, posterized, and then painted with the 'BladeRunner City Map'. A few similarly-textured primitives have been dropped in as well to hide some more glaring defects.
The giant planet in the background is the 'Jupiter' material made Additive, with reduced diffusion and specularity (to make it stand out less). The spaceships were taken wholesale from another project, 'SpaceDog', and are a combination of Extreme 3D 2.0 models (exported as DXFs) and Bryce primitives.
A small amount of touching-up using PhotoShop was done after rendering. |
