Comments:

Fiddling about in Extreme 3D gave me the basic shapes out of which these things are constructed. The 'legs' and the horn-like structures supporting the whatever-it-is (look, I'm not an expert on alien morphology, right?) were produced by extensive - some would say excessive - application of the deformation tools to simpler shapes. The bits were then imported into Bryce and assembled, duplicated, stretched, folded, spindled and mutilated, after which textures were applied and some mountains were dropped in as a backdrop.

I should probably work to make the mountains a little more interesting. The scene has a slightly unfinished feel to it, but it's not unattractive.
