Comments:

The image is based on Syyd Rave's "Kane" character, but with the ubiquitous 'wedge cut' hairstyle. I started the image without a very clear idea of what I wanted it to look like - the figure was originally intended to be a soldier, and I was aiming for some vaguely Napoleonic-era look and feel which might have led to a historically 'real' image or to some kind of 'alternate future' scene - a man with a musket standing in front of a spaceship or something.

As the image took shape, however, the idea of a duellist suggested itself, and so I modelled a pistol rather than a musket. The pistol was made with Carrara, using the spline modeller with varying degrees of success. The texture map for the figure is a slightly-modified version of the original "Kane" texture map.

The man's opponent and the two seconds are also Poser figures, but as the scene file was already around 40MB, I rendered them in Poser and then imported the rendered images as 2D picture objects.

The giant planet in the background is, as usual, a little silly (it's questionable whether any planet could show that large a disc in the sky of another without the two colliding, breaking each other into fragments through tidal forces, or simply making one or the other uninhabitable), but it's nice from the point of view of composition.
