It's a composite image in another sense. It's actually the product of two separate scene files. For some reason known only to the implementors of Bryce, when I tried to add a distant object - initially a terrain, subsequently replaced by a spaceship - Bryce suddenly refused to map the yellow-and-black PICT image used on the pillars any more. Descending into the 2D texture library with a large axe failed to change its mind, so I conceded defeat and rendered two partial versions of the scene, one with the space ship and no 2D textures, the other with 2D textures but no spaceship. I then assembled the two in PhotoShop.
The figure in orange coveralls at the end of the walkway is, of course, a Poser figure, imported in the usual way.
The title and quotation used were originally attached to a different image, which was made with Bryce 1 and has now been phased out. They're from a song about the oil industry, and in particular what happens when you cut safety measures for the sake of profit. The odd thing is that I'm pretty certain that I first heard Tom Robinson sing this several months before the Piper Alpha disaster, which it clearly refers to. The guy must be clairvoyant or something ... |
