Comments:

This image was made entirely with Bryce 4. Even the robots are constructed from primitives (something which is rather more obvious in places than I would like it to be).

The image began as a demonstration image for a tutorial, but started to take on a life of its own. The image looks deceptively detailed, but much of the complexity actually comes from a handful of related texture maps, applied to most of the objects in the scene.

The scene was originally intended to demonstrate how lower-detail objects can be used further from the camera. The columns in the foreground are complex, made of collections of cylinders, spheres and toruses. Further away, they are simple cylinders. This allows the scene-file size to be kept relatively small.
