Efficiency

There are a number of ways in which to manipulate objects or navigate in your scene more efficiently. These tips can save you time when you are creating your scene.

Select items by menu
Bryce offers a variety of ways to select objects in complex scenes. Among the most useful are control-clicking and the pop-up menus on the Selection Palette.

Use sub-files
Split your scene up into sub-files, giving each sub-file a meaningful name. Work on the subfiles and then import their contents to the main scene when ready.

Use multi-replicate
Use copy and paste, duplicate and multi-replicate to reproduce complex groups efficiently.

Lock and hide objects
When you have finished working with an object, use the Attributes Editor to lock it. You can also hide the object to speed up test renders.

Solo mode
Use the 'Solo Mode' option to work on a single object or group of objects at once.

Wireframe optimization
Use the 'Show as Box' option to speed up the drawing of your objects. Reduce the wireframe resolution to speed up drawing of the whole scene.

Use proxies for models
Use simple objects to stand in for complex objects such as models or groups. Do basic positioning and layout using these proxies, and then import the more complex object.

Duplicate and change types
Instead of creating new objects and then dragging them into place, copy an existing object that's already in place, and then change its type.

Speed renders by suppressing texture
To speed up test-rendering of your scene, turn off textures.

Coordinate maps
For very large scenes, draw a map on paper (or in a 2D drawing application). You can then position objects or move your camera by typing in coordinates, instead of dragging.
